Bammera Pothana Tourist Place

Bammera Pothana born at Bammera Village, Palakurthy Mandal, New Jangaon Disrtict of Telangana State. He is Niyogi Brahmin family. His father was Kesanna and mother was Laksanamma. He was a great natural poeter (sahaja kavi) and polite gentleman. He was an agriculture by occupation and great scholar, he never hesitated to work in the agricultural fields.

He first wrote poem is "BOGINI DANDAKAM", the poem wrote in praise of king Sri Singa Bhoopala's concubine Bhogini.
His second poem is "VEERABADRA VIJAYAMU" which describes the adventures of Lord Veerabadra son of Lord Shiva, and main theme of a performed in absence of Lord Shiva by Daksha Prajapathi.

Pothana became a devotee of Lord Rama and more interested in salvation. Loed Rama appeared dressed like a king and requested pothana to translate Bhagavatham into Telugu and dedicated in to him. This inspired him to translate Vyasa's Sanskrit Bhagavatham inti Telugu.Pothana refused to obey the kin's orders and dedicated the Bhagavatham to Lord Rama. He was opinion that poetry was a divine gift and it should be utilized for salvation by devoting it to the God.

Pothana Imparted the knowledge of the divine to the telugu people along with lessons in ethics and politics through Andra Maha Bhagavatham. Even illiterate Telugus readily quote verses from chapters "Gajendra Moksham" and "Andra Charitha" of his work. Telugu people are greatly indebted to the most beloved poet Bommera Pothana.
